15 May 1559. Earl of Northumberland to the Queen Dowager, Regent of Scotland

From a Minute.

IT may like your Grace to be advertised, that I haue receyved from the Quene's Majesty my Soveraigne a Comyssion directed to the Bishop of Duresme, the Lord Dacres, Sir James Croftes and myself, geving unto us thereby Power and Auctorite, joyntlie and seuerally, to meat and convene with the Orators, Embassators, Comyssaries, or Legates of hir Majesty's derest Brother and Sister the King and Quene Dolphins of Scotland; and with them to deliberate, consult, determyne, and conclude of and uppon aswell certen Articles conteyned in the last Conclusion and Treaty of Peace, concluded betwene the said Princes at Cameryk in Aprile last, as also upon eny other Matter or Cause that shuld touch, or concerne the Quiet, Tranquilite, and Concorditie of both the Realmes of England and Scotland; of the which Things I haue receyved lik Commandment to give Notice unto your Grace, or to your Ministers, of entent that Tyme and Place of meting convenient for the said Conclusion before the 28th of this Instant, may be had and appointed. Wherein having Respect to the shortnes of Tyme, I shall most humbly require your Grace's Resolution, and Answere by this Bearer, with the Names of such as bene appointed for that Realme, if it may so stand with your Grace's Pleasure; and by God's Grace I and my Collegees shall attend the same, according to the Charge geven unto us in that Behalf: And, for that convenient Lodging aswell for the one Side as the other, for that Tyme is to be considered, it may therefore stand with your Grace's Pleasure that the Place of meting, may be accordinglie appointed; wherein the Berer knoweth my Fantasye to be declared, yf it shall so please your Grace.
