Outlaws (civil and criminal)

The project began in August 2025. The idea is to link the law suit which led to an outlawry with follow-up information regarding the property of the outlaw. Arranged by last name of outlaw.

  • outlawed at the suit of Thomas de Midelton, cantor of Chichester priory
    • capias utlagatum returnable Octaves of Michaelmas 1393 handed over to sheriff by Thomas Midelton on 20 July 1393 together with 20s to serve the writ. Gate was captured on 26 August 1393 but sheriff returned a non est inventus. Jury found for plaintiff [8]SB

  • outlawed on 29 February 1392 at the suit of Christiana, widow of Hugh Couper, for killing her husband [9] SB

• Richard Wryngge of Salisbury, merchant
  • outlawed at the suit of Thomas Crouk of Sidelyng in a plea of debt before Court of Common Pleas
  • capias utlagatum handed over to John Launce, undersheriff, in Salisbury by Richard Lambard on 2 June 1392; was captured but then released and threatened to kill Thomas [24] [25]
